For your consideration is this authentic rosewood six handle ship helm. This wheel has a solid rosewood and brass construction and features six small handles. The handles are ornately carved showing fine craftsmanship and design. The wheel would have sat in the ships cockpit or wheelhouse and was used to steer the ship. The helm is connected to the ship's rudder, a movable surface located at the rear of the ship, beneath the waterline. When the helm is turned, the rudder moves in the opposite direction, causing the ship to change course. There is no makers mark present. The wheel shows some wear with slight chips to portions of the wood but is in overall good condition despite numerous years of use. The wheel measures 24" diameter.
