Featured in this lot is this pair of beautiful, bear paw style snowshoes circa early 1900s. These bear paw style snowshoes show no makers mark and have been constructed out of stretched and woven rawhide lacing as well as leather on the foot holds. A typical feature of the bear paw snowshoe style is having no tail, but this pair features a large tail for the style. The oval shape of these snow shoes are good for maneuverability in thick woods and mountainous terrain with firmer snow, but struggle in terms of speed and working in deep powder snow. The snowshoes show good condition overall, showing some wear from their age and use over the years, but no signs of major or obvious damage is noted. They measure 33 3/4" L x 20 1/8" W and have a collective weight of 5 pounds and 10 ounces.
