The lot features a beautifully beaded and porcupine quilled pipe bag from the Plains, attributed to the Cheyenne or Sioux. The nice bag shows Indian tanned hide construction with stunning beadwork done in glass trade seed beads and parfleche rawhide strip fringes wrapped in porcupine quill quillwork with frilly Indian hide fringes below. The beadwork wraps around both sides and is along the opening, a strip down each sides vertical edge and wrapping around the base area with a zig-zag feathered design above which is further adorned with red dyed triangles. One side shows a tab design and the other an hourglass design on blue background. The bead shows colors of greasy yellow, semi-transparent Cheyenne pink, light blue, cobalt, and chalk white. A nice reservation early era pipe bag that is well kept with little bead loss and supple hides. Measures 39-inches long by 5.75-inches wide.
