Featured in this lot is this birch bark and split willow leather wrapped creels circa 20th century. There are two creels in this collection. The first is a birch bark and leather string sewn construction that shows a wooden latch system and completely constructed from birch bark. The second is older from the early 1900's and shows a tightly woven spilt willow construction that shows harness leather wrapping to support the creel with one larger main compartment. The condition of this collection creels is preserved with the birch creel shows little to no wear or signs of damage and the other split willow creel showing the front strap torn and missing its shoulder strap. The measurements of these creels is 10 1/8" x 12" x 5 1/2" and 9 1/2" x 12" x 7 1/2". The collective weight of these creels is 2lb 12oz.
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
