For your consideration is a First Edition of , "Bit and Spur Makers in the Vaquero Tradition: A Historical Perspective", by Ned & Jody Martin with contributions from James Gorton and Danny Neill. American cowboys loved the flash of silver at their heels and on their horses. Western craftsmen between 1840 and 1960 responded to the cowboy's needs by creating intricately engraved silver bits and spurs that are avidly collected today. From the dust jacket, "Focusing on the period between 1840 to 1960, authors Ned and Jody highlight the handicrafts worn by vaqueros in 650 colour photographs of pieces from more than 45 distinguished collections. Spotlighting the lives of 80 silversmiths, this book tracks their place in America's expansion towards the Pacific Coast when horse were the primary means of transportation." This is a beautifully illustrated book in near new condition, no marring noted. Black cloth lettered in red gilt, cover and publisher's dust jacket have slight scuffing, measures 9.25"W x 12.25"L x 1.25"D
