The lot features an original Blackfeet (Blackfoot) Native American Indian cradle board papoose dating to the 19th Century. The baby carrier shows a solid wood back board that has been covered in Great American Bison Buffalo Indian tanned hide. At the top of the board shows an early dark purple calico trade clothe that has exceptional geometric pictorial beadwork. The beadwork shows a unique collection of glass trade seed beads, faceted glass beads and Czechoslovakian cut glass tube bugle beads. The beadwork is in a myriad of colors such as iridescent, semi-transparent, red and more. The front of the the hide shows a scalloped edge of Rocky Mountain Elk Indian tanned hide and the board is also adorned with Indian tanned hide long cut fringe. At the end of the belt shows an older green museum collection identification tag that is marked "B135" and "GE.JJ" on one side and "this baby carrier is Blackfoot" on the other. Provenance: From a large Native American weapons and beadwork collection in Great Falls, Montana. The board shows a combination of sinew and trade thread sewing construciton and still has the original tie at the back. Overall in museum presentation condition. Measures overall 32"L x 13"W.
