This is an excellent full size large, beaded papoose cradleboard from the Blackfeet Piegan Indians of Northern Montana dating to circa 1950’s. The piece shows a full size piece with wood frame wrapped in Indian tanned buckskin which is beautifully beaded across the entire front top with a whimisical floral geometric pattern in trade pony beads. At the center is the area for the child with papoose cover over the head with scalloped edge framing the face, ties down the center and long wide hide fringe down each side. The piece is in traditional Northern Plains pattern as scene from the Blackfeet Piegan and Crow. The beadwork is done in all glass trade pony beads showing a white iridescent background with colors in iridescent green, yellow, orange, salmon and blue with glass trade seed beads in cobalt, red, and sky padre greasy blue. The piece is trade thread sewn and shows the ties and additional fringes on the reverse. The inside is stuffed with trade clothe in the shape of a child. Unlike other examples that are typically smaller toys, this is a full size large example which is truly beautiful. Provenance: From a large Cowboy and Antique collection in Butte, Montana.
