The lot features a terrific 19th Century Northern Plains Native American Indian root ball head war club attributed to the Blackfoot (Blackfeet) Indians of the Northwest in Montana. The piece shows a solid single-carved piece of wood from a tree’s root with the ball being the root burl carved into a spherical ball. At the ball shows an inset spike at the center. The haft has high relief carving and a deep, shiny chocolate patina and is adorned with brass trade tacks. The club is attributed to the Blackfeet (Blackfoot) American Indians of Montana and shows well preserved condition and fine patina from honest age and use. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Tom Hardy in Indiana. Measures 19 inches in length.
