This is an excellent harness leather belt and sheath with brass and metal tacks, paired with a bone handled knife, from the Blackfoot Native American Indians of Northern Montana and dating to the 1800’s. The sheath and belt are made completely of thick harness saddle trade leather with traditional pattern. The sheath has smaller, solid brass, square shank tacks and larger, metal brass covered, trade tacks, totaling four rows. The belt, which is copper riveted with copper or brass covered metal harness buckles, also shows thicker, brass covered metal, larger trade tacks in five rows. The belt and sheath have a nice dark patina and are truly a fantastic Indian Wars era example in traditional pattern. The sheath is paired with a nice, thin trade knife with solid bone grip scales and copper pins. The grips have a nice dark yellowing patina, a true testament of early age. This is one of the best tacked sheath and belt Blackfoot (Blackfeet) examples we have offered and currently the finest on the public market. Provenance: From a private collection of early American and Native American antiquities in Iowa. The sheath is 11.25” L by 4” W. The belt is approximately 47.5” L by 3” W. The knife is 12” L.
