Featured in this lot is this original Bob Scriver chalkware sculpture titled, "Lone Cowboy" done in Browning, Montana circa 1960. Chalkware sculptures were done by Scriver himself at his hime foundry and only for a limited number of years, truly a rarity with few known to exist. Robert "Bob" Mcafee Scriver (1914-1999) was born in Browning, Montana (in the heart of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation) in 1914. Scriver began sculpting using taxidermy to learn his craft of making wildlife bronzes. By 1962 he became a charter member of the Society of Animal Artists, had been accepted into the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and a member of the National Sculpture Society, and the National Academy of Western Art. This sculpture depicts a cowboy sitting on the ground near his horse as he plays the harmonica or lights a cigarette. The horse is close and appears interested in what the man is doing on the ground. The front of the sculpture reads, "Lone Cowboy", while the back reads, "© Bob Scriver 1960 Browning, Montana". The sculpture shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and handling over the years. No major signs of wear or damage is noted. Slight chips of the chalkware present. The piece measures 9 1/2" L x 13 1/2" W x 12 1/2" H and weighs 13 pounds and 2 ounces.
