Included in this lot we have a Burnside 5th model breach loading cavalry carbine chambered in .54 Caliber. The carbine was designed and patented by Ambrose Burnside in the early 1850's. The carbine used a unique brass cartridge with the bullet and powder, and missing the primer. The Burnside carbine was the third most popular carbine during the Civil War only being beat by the Sharps and Spencer carbines. The Burnside saw use though all the theaters of the Civil War and was mostly used by Union Cavalry units. The carbine displays a 21" round barrel, unique breech action, walnut stock, lever lock trigger guard, and side hammer. The carbine displays a saddle ring bar on the side. The top of the frame is marked "Burnside Patent March 25th 1856 31104' with the side of the lock plate marked "Burnside Rifle Co Providence R.I.". The rifle shows good condition for its age with a warm patina with signs of age and use. Serial Number: 31104. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
