Freeman first released this essential work in 1900, and it gives light on one of the most important mining sites in Western history. Harry Freeman portrays Butte and its surroundings from its early origins to its prosperous years, when copper flowed like a river from its mines, using his observations and rare images from the era. Butte, Montana, was known around the world as "The Richest Mining Spot On Earth" at the time of publication, and its mines generated not just massive amounts of copper, but also silver, gold, and other metals. Freeman depicts in great detail the most important mines in the Butte area, including unique information about their owners, history, and, most importantly, how the mines operated and how their treasures were removed.
