This lot features volumes I, II, and III of "Butterfield Overland Mail", written by Roscoe and Margaret Conkling and published in 1947. The Butterfield Overland Mail Trail was a stagecoach service from 1857-1961. The service had two eastern terminals in Memphis and St. Louis with routes to San Francisco. Before the days of the Transcontinental Railroad, the stagecoach provided a valuable service to connect the eastern and western United States. These books are often considered the best work on the first overland postal service from the Mississippi to the Pacific Coast. These books offer a wonderful, historical read and show good, overall condition. Each volume measures 6 3/4" x 9 3/4".
