Featured in this lot is this Shrop and Huntington Shire maps circa 1695 by English mapmaker Robert Morden born in 1650 and died in 1703. There are two maps in this collection. The first is a map of Huntington Shire map that copper pressed map with some imperfections to the pressing and shows a complete scope of Huntington Shire; this is a first edition copy. The second map is of Shrop Shire and is only part of the Stafford Shire map and is copper pressed and shows the scope of Shrop Shire in detail. Robert Morden (c. 1650 – 1703) was an English bookseller, publisher, and mapmaker, globemaker and engraver. He was among the first successful commercial map makers. Between about 1675 and his death in 1703, he was based under the sign of the Atlas at premises in Cornhill and New Cheapside, London. The condition of this pair of maps is well preserved with some folding to the corners and seems to have been extracted from books but otherwise is in well preserved condition.
