This is an excellent Frontier gunsmith percussion cap and ball musket rifle with beautiful Indian tacking all dating from circa 1840-1850s. The rifle consists of an octagonal barrel that is 37-inches-long with wood stock having an elaborate brass trigger guard and brass crescent butte plate. The side lock plate does not appear to be marked and shows the single side exposed hammer with small engraving. The entire rifle is covered in wonderful brass trade tacked designs attributed to the Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin. The rifle shows expected nicks, dings and wear due to its early age, but overall is in good condition. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison, Cincinnati, Ohio. Measures overall 52 ½ inches in length. This antique firearm does not require FFL*.
