The lot features a circa 1850 Pueblo Indian Gourd Ratle from the Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The rattle exhibits a gourd top on a wood dowel with expertly carved wood handle tied with a twine trade tie. An original museum collection tag is still attached, marked "06.12.12". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The entire piece is covered with a dark mineral pigment paint.
