The lot features a 19th Century London Armory Co. musket rifle chambered in 58 caliber with brass tacked design and badge. The side of the lock plate is stamped with the LONDON ARMORY Co. mark and King’s crown and the rifle shows an exposed side percussion hammer with rounded barrel, full wood stock having three barrel bands. The London Armory Company in England was in business from circa 1856-1866 and supplied black powder muzzle loading rifles during the U.S. Civil War. The entire surface of the gun is covered in various metal tacks as well as an plaque crudely stamped INDIAN POLICE with five-point stars. The consignor notes the tacking and badge to be attributed to the Comanche Indians of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as one side is stamped into the wood COMANCHE TRIBE FORT SILL OKLAHOMA next to a five point nickel silver star stamped US. The badge like plaque also appears to be nickel silver. The tacking, silver plaques and stamping’s age cannot be confirmed and is unknown, likely a later addition. The rifle has a sling with older USS United States Indian Service crossed arrow badge attached. The rifle has a tip up elevation sight. An attractive older gun that displays well. Measures overall 55 ½ inches long. From an Ohio private collection. Antique firearm, NO FFL.
