The lot features a polychrome painted parfleche elliptical case from the circa 1860-1870 Sioux Native American Indians and the Bruce VanLandingham Sundog collection. The parfleche rawhide piece shwos a nice large size and is reffered to as an elliptical case due to its base having an elliptical shape and curved outside body. Similar to a headdress bonnet case the piece has a tall body with Indian hide sewn single edge and sinew sewn bottom edge. The side edge is also woven with a strip of old red stroud wool trade clothe. The case has an excellent rich mineral pigment polychrome geometric traditional pattern with colors of blue, red, yellow, green. The painting is exhibited across the entire outside of the piece. The top has a single strap of Indian tanned hide. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
