This is an excellent set of circa 1870 Blackfeet whimsical beaded high top men's moccasins in buffalo Indian hide from Northern Montana. The set is comprised of Indian tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide with sinew sewn 1800's period correct glass trade seed beads showing a phenomenal whimiscal floral geometric freeform pattern, documented amongst the Blackfeet. The beads include colors of greasy yellow, greasy blue, chalk white, semi-transparent, greasy butterscotch yellow, red white hearts, cobalt, Cheyenne pink, greasy green, and light padre sky blue. The set has a high ankle, known as a high top moccasin and shows thick parfleche rawhide buffalo / bison hard soled whcih are sinew sewn and show a deep, rich foot worn patina from honest age and use. These Indian Wars era 1870's set would have bene worn by a warrior and are truly well kept with buffalo and buckskin Indian hide having the original Indian hide strap wrappings at the ankle as well. The set is very well preserved with supple soft well kept hides and little to no bead loss as well as presenting beautifully. Provenance: From a prominent Native American private collection from Wisconsin same as the Cheyenne Ann Strange Owl family collection including the war shirt that sold by our company NAAC in November 2023 for $46,875; also noted as being from the Dean Taylor collection, Denver, Colorado (collection that included the Niitsitapi Blackfeet Beaded Moccasins which sold at Bonhams Skinners in December 2022 for $10,200 and the 1870 Crow Pipe Tomahawk with beaded drop also from Dean Taylor Gallery sold by NAAC in September 2024 for $8,890. Each moccasin measures 10.5-inches long sole by 4-inches wide by 8.5-inches high.
