This is a set of Indian hide and parfleche hard sole moccasins with excellent beadwork from the Cheyenne Native American Indians dating to circa 1870 and from the Bruce VanLandingham Sundog collection. The set is comprised of thick Buffalo Indian tanned hide tops covered in period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads in a traditional Buffalo track geometric Cheyenne pattern. The base show parfleche rawhide hard soles with wonderful original patina from age and use. The top edge of the ankle is lined with purple old trade clothe piping which continues under the bifurcated or split thick Buffalo hide tongue held up with the original Indian hide ties. The beadwork includes colors of chalk white, greasy yellow, cobalt, red white hearts, sky padre light blue, and semi-transparent green. The set is all sinew sewn. The set has an excellent pattern and is well preserved with some stiffness to the hide with slight supple softness and little to no bead loss. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
