This is an original Colt Open Top Pocket Model Revolver chambered in .22 and manufactured in 1877. The Colt Open Top Pocket Model Revolver was a single action pocket revolver introduced by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1871. This revolver was introduced a year before the Colt Open Top Model 1871-1872 revolver and two years before the Colt Single Action Army Model 1873. The Colt Open Top was designed by William Mason and Charles Brinckerhoff Richards and was produced from 1871-1877. This example has a 2 3/8" round barrel, seven shot round cylinder which is marked on the inside "O", brass frame having a spur trigger with nickel silver finish with Rosewood birds-head grips, and a V-notch rear hammer sight paired with a brass blade front sight. grip scales. The pistol is marked with faded marking on top of the barrel, "Colt PT.F.A.MFG. Co. Hartford Ct U.S.A.' and a cross marking 22 CAL on the side underneath the cylinder and serial no. 78966 on the butt of the handle. The spur trigger, hammer and screw holding the grips all have a nice dark blue finish. The revolver appears to be in good functioning order, clicking back twice, turning the cylinder and locking it in place; puling the hammer releases the trigger. The bore shows good to fair condition with little to no spotting and some rifling still intact. Serial number 78966, manufactured in 1877. The revolver was recovered from an original 19th Century Gamblers Traveling Case sold by our company in 2022 for $3,385.50 (w/ bp). Due to the .22 caliber the firearm cannot be shipped to Canada. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Handgun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
