The lot features a finely beaded set of hide moccasins dating to circa 1880 from the Blackfeet Native American Indians. The set shows an Indian tanned Buffalo hide with trade canvas muslin and blue wool stroud ankles. The tops are covered in traditional geometric 19th Century glass trade seed beadwork in iconic Blackfeet or Blackfoot patterns. The colors of the beadwork include greasy green, Cheyenne pink, light blue and chalk white. The trade fabric ankle is rolled down and held up by the original Indian tanned hide tie. The set is in a traditional Blackfeet pattern with soft thick Buffalo hide soles, fabric ankle and completely covered geometric beaded foot top. The set is trade thread sewn. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
