The lot features a fully restored Covered Wagon dating to circa 1880 from Montana. The wagon is completely restored, from every bolt to every board done in beautiful solid oak hardwood. The wagon is also complete and includes the wagon, front and rear seats with upholstered cushions, wagon bows and canvas bonnet cover, solid draw bar, leather rigging, leather horse collar with spreaders, original neck yoke and double tree / doubletree, working brake and brake block, rubber lined felly / felloe rim, along with second contemporary rigging setup. This antique wagon has an outstanding undercarriage showing two wrought iron forged axles with both having triple leaf spring setups (six sets of leaf springs in all). This is possibly the only and finest completely fully restored high quality 19th Century Covered Wagon brought to the public market. The wagon setup shows a driver's seat box on the front (with upholstered cushion) with foot well showing the brake lever, down the sides show the angled sideboards with cast iron hardware on top of the Yankee bed box with two original oak and cast iron hardware seats on the inside both having an upholstered seat cushion, over the bed shows the wagon box bent wood straps (four in all) holding the canvas bonnet cover, and at the back the fold down door with cast iron and oak step ladder. The wagon can also be referred to as a chuck wagon, prairie schooner, cowboy trail driver wagon, prairie wagon, ambulance, murphy wagon or studebaker wagon, and is similar to the Herschel Chuck Wagon listed for nearly $15,000. These wagons became popular and necessary during the American Westward Expansion taking routes such as teh Great Wagon Road, the Mormon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, the Oregon Trail, and the Bozeman Trail amongst others. The covered wagon has become the icon of the American West. This wagon can easily be used by the purchaser for parades or tours and by itself is one of the most attractive and well restored covered wagons available.
