The lot features a wonderful Plateau circa 1880's beaded hide dress. The dress is comprised of Indian tanned buckskin with old trade clothe and red stroud trade clothe sewn with trade cotton thread and beautifully accented by period correct 19th Century glass trade pony and seads beads in a geometric banded beadwork pattern typical of the Plateau Indian region. The dress has a red stroud trade clothe collor with hide lacing sewn details and beadwork across the shoulders and neckline as well as across the chest with small frilly fringes below holding period correct Czechoslovakian bugle number three wampum glass trade beads in black and semi-transparent, all beaded on both sides. Below this, again beaded on both sides, are shield like sections with medium blue borders and red and green old stroud trade clothe having hide fringes and rolled copper trade jingle dangle cones, then various diamond pieces of old green stroud wool trade clothe with semi-transparent Cheyenne pink and along the bottom a scalloped freeform edge with band of greasy blue and semi-transparent Cheyenne pink with frilly fringes. The top beadwork is in black, greasy blue and semi-transparent Cheyenne pink. The dress has some tears and rips as well as some bead loss along with varying old repairs from 19th Century patches and sewing to early to mid 1900's repairs as well, indicating that his piece has been in a Plateau family for quite some time. Provenance: From a large private Native American and Western collection in Utah where the piece was recovered. Measures overall 48"L by 42"W.
