This is an original circa 1883 Birds Eye View of Helena, Montana Territory map by J.J. Stoner. This original, authentic example is very uncommon, dating to the Territory days of Montana with very few of the larger examples in such well preserved condition still remaining. The map shows a perspective map of Helena, Montana which is the Capital of Montana Territory. Marked bottom middle, “Copyright 1883 J. J. Stoner, Madison, Wis.” and bottom left, “Published by J. J. Stoner, Madison, Wis.” as well as on the right-side bottom, “Beck & Paul, Lithographers, Milwaukee, Wis.” The map has a large Helena banner which note “The Capitol of Montana and County Seat of Lewis and Clarke Co.” as well as a key on the bottom left and right. These maps are also referred to as aerial maps, perspective maps, birdseye maps, birds eye maps, panoramic maps. The only other example dating to circa 1883 which pre-dated Montana’s Statehood was the 1883 Helena Birds Eye by J.J. Stoner which was smaller at 16”H by 27”W sold at Millea Bros in 2017 for $1,375. This original example is well kept with only a small water stain on the bottom portion and has been professionally framed for preservation. The frame measures 31.25” by 21.25” and the visible art area is about 29.5” by 19.75”. One of the better Montana Perspective View Maps.
