For your consideration is this collection of 5 short and small collectors books from Duke's Cigarettes in 1889. Between 1875 and the 1940s, cigarette companies often included collectible trading cards with their packages of cigarettes. Cigarette card sets document popular culture from the turn of the century, often depicting the period’s actresses, costumes, and sports, as well as offering fascinating insights into mainstream American humor and cultural norms. The books feature 16 pages each and an illustrated front and back cover, along with Duke's Cigarettes advertising on the very last page. They are held together by one metal staple. Three of the books in this collection are from the "Histories of The Following Generals" series, which covers a specific general and gives a 16 page history about them. The first one is titled, "A Short History of Gen. Leonidas Polk", the second is titled, "A Short History of General John Morgan" and the third is titled, "A Short History of Gen. Phil. Sheridan". The other two books in this collection are from another Duke's Cigarettes series titled, "Histories of Poor Boys Who Have Become Rich and Other Famous People". The first book in this series is titled, "Life of Prof. Huxley" and the second book in this series is titled, "Life of Horace B. Claflin". The books show good condition overall with slight wear from use and their vintage age. All the books are still held together tightly from their one staple and all interior pages are still very readable. The only book with staining is "Life of Horace B. Claflin". The books measure 2 3/4" L x 1 1/2" W.
