This is an excellent set of large beaded hide gauntlet gloves from the Plateau Indians from the personal ex-collection of L.A. Huffman. The large men’s gloves consist of Indian tanned thick hide with large gauntlet cuff integrally sewn on having a thick canvas lining covered on the front with period correct beadwork and framed on the outside edge in Indian tanned hide fringe. The beadwork is trade thread sewn and shows a background of chalk white and greasy white with whimsical floral and bird effigy beadwork. The designs are in orange, green, turquoise, greasy amber, black and more. There is little to no bead loss. Likely from the Flathead or Nez Perce tribes the piece was collected in Montana by Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931). L.A. Huffman was a noted photographer in Montana. His collection was acquired by noted Montana collector John Fox. This piece is from the John Fox, Missoula, Montana collection. Well kept with little to no bead loss. Each glove measures 14.5” by 13”.
