The lot features a fantastic set of Buffalo Indian hide beaded men’s leggings from the Sioux Native American Indians dating to the late 19th Century to early 20th Century from the Lowell Baier conservationist and historic Native American and Teddy Roosevelt collector. The set is comprised of Great American Bison Buffalo Indian tanned hide and displayed on custom museum wall mounted displays. The large men’s leggings are bordered in hand cut Indian tanned hide fringes on the outside edge done in Indian tanned buckskin hide. The front of each shows a wide large traditional beaded strip on a thick Indian tanned hide showing exceptional geometric beadwork all done in early glass trade seed beads. The beadwork shows colors of greasy yellow, medium blue, chalk white, semi-transparent red, medium green, and cobalt. The beadwork shows a diamond storm like pattern with tipi (tepee or teepee) like shape as well as “E” shapes likely representing Buffalo hoof tracks or another hoof from an Elk or other animal. The set is well kept with supple hide and shows a cotton trade thread sewing. The stands are comprised of plastic rounded leg shaped stands with metal frame that can be mounted to a wall beautifully. Little to no bead loss. Provenance: From the iconic Lowell Baier collection of Native American, Western Art and Teddy Roosevelt museum pieces. Lowell Baier is one of America’s greatest modern conservationist. Each legging measures approximately 30”H by 11.5”W not including the additional 4.5”W fringes by 5.25”D.
