The lot features a circa late 19th Century to early 20th Century beaded doll with cowrie shells from the Plains Native American Indians. The doll shows a hide and trade clothe construction with trade thread sewing. The doll has a worn velvet trade clothe dress with a Czechoslovakian bugle bead wampum yoke / collar. The doll has real human hair with red stroud wrapped braids. The doll also shows a glass trade seed beaded necklace, beadwork around the collar, sleeve ends and bottom edge of the dress as well as a beaded hide belt. The beads are a combination of old glass trade seed beads, wound pony beads and Czech tube beads. There are several various trade beads also sewn on and a beaded hide bag, either representing a pipe bag, flat bag or strike-a-lite bag. The dress also has number one wampum cowrie shells as well as one various shell. The doll face shows painted features and bead eyes. This doll has wonderful patina. some stiff hides, and slight bead loss, but displays wonderfully. Provenance: From a Wisconsin Native American private collection and an old ranch collection in Montana. Measures overall 10.5" by 7".
