This is an outstanding set of circa 1890's dentalium shell earrings from the Northern Plains Native American Indians and the Sundog Gallery Bruce VanLandingham collection. The set shows fifteen rows of five to six dentalium shells strung with trade cotton thread with rawhide parfleche spacers. The piece has two of the original museum collection tags; one marked 05.11.28 and the other the Sundog tag marked "Dentalium Earrings c. 1890 $2,850 BV0283 and "C RICH ABROMEIT (billings). Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. The set is in good condition with some slight shell loss. Measures each 15.5"L.
