This is an outstanding and sale highlight piece, the rare Western Yavapai Apache pictorial olla basket dating to circa 1890, which was originally sold by Allard Auction into a prestigious Native American collection. The basket is very similar to the example sold by Cowan’s Auction in their March 2010 sale for $35,000 also from the Western Apache tribe, the Yavapai Apache. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bear grass construction that shows polychrome decoration with brown pictorial design depicting horses, Native American men and women, chickens, willow, devil’s claw and red yucca. The condition of this Apache basket is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of the basket is 13" x 17 1/2".*
