The lot features a total of 38 original circa 1893-1899 Regina Music Box Company 27-inch round discs for use in Regina upright music boxes and from the same collection as the previous lot, the 1894-1900 Regina Music Box. The discs are all 19th Century examples ranging from metal to copper appearance. The Regina Music Box Company’s story began in Gohis, Germany in 1885 at the Symphonian music box Co. when the disc playing music box was introduced, later splitting off by two employees, Gustave Brachhausen and Paul Reissner in 1889 being called Polyphon in Leipzig. Tariffs on imported goods in the United States, enacted in 1890 made it more cost effective for the company to setup shop in the U.S., so in 1894 Brachhausen officially inaugurated The Regina Music Box Company. The discs are marked “Copyrighted by the Regina Music Box Co. 1896 / Regina Trade Mark / U.S. Patents No. 500370 To . 500374 . Dated . June . 27, 1893” in varying ways (patents dates back approx. 1889 and Railway New Jersey) as well as being marked by the different songs played such as: Chicken Chowder Two Step 1805, Norma Mira O Norma. Bellini. 4032, In Old Madrid Bolero Trotere 4138, Asleep in the Deep Song Petrie 4162, Frog Legs Rag Scott 4731, and many more. The discs which are both metal and what appears to be copper for a handful are in ranges of condition from very good to some with light surface discoloration, but overall each appears to be in working order and displays beautifully. This is the largest collection offered for public sale. Some discs individually have sold for upwards of $250 a piece, with this lot offering all 38 together. Each disc measures 27 inches in diameter.
