This is an exceedingly Rare Shaw & Powell Camping Co. Yellowstone National Park circa 1898-1916 shaving mug; recovered in 1970’s from a single-owner collection. The shaving mug shows the correct Shaw & Powell Camping Co. Permanent Camps Yellowstone National Park buffalo / bison diamond logo at the center. Founded in 1898 by Amos Shaw and John D. Powell, the Shaw & Powell Camping Company operated movable tent camps in Yellowstone National Park. By 1913, the company was granted permission to establish permanent camps throughout the park. This bowl would have been used at one of these permanent camp locations. By 1916, the company merged with Wylie Camps and closed many camps. The bowl was made by Burley & Company Hotel Dept. of Chicago, and is stamped on the bottom as such. This is a rare piece of collectible history of Yellowstone National Park and is extremely sought after and highly collectible. Provenance: This piece was recovered by the current owner in the 1970’s and has been in their collection since. The shaving mug shows overall good condition for its age with a small imperfection on the back rim as shown. Measures 3-inches in across by 2 5/8-inches high.
