The lot features a Plains Indian Ball Head War Club collected from the Plains Indians of Montana by L.A. Huffman. The piece consist of a root burl carved ball with classic curved body dating to circa 1900-1930’s from the Plains Indian during the early Reservation era. The club is covered in scrimshaw burnt effigy carvings. The piece was collected in Montana by Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931). L.A. Huffman was a noted photographer in Montana. His collection was acquired by noted Montana collector John Fox. This piece is from the John Fox, Missoula, Montana collection. The piece shows tipi / teepee, canoe, warrior or chief in headdress, a woman with head band flapper style, and warriors with tomahawks dancing around their tipis bordered in a zig-zag pattern. The piece measures overall 16.25”L, the ball is 3” by 3” by 2”.
