Featured in this lot is a silver gelatin photograph called "The Old Hunting Grounds," circa 1900-1910 by notable American photographer, Charles Carpenter, who was born in 1869 and died in 1949. This photograph is wonderfully and professionally crafted in a sepia toned silver gelatin photograph with applied color of a mounted Plains Indian on a hillside looking out over the valley. The photographer's signature is shown in the bottom right hand corner along with the title of the piece in the bottom left hand corner "The Old Hunting Grounds." Charles Carpenter (1869-1949) worked as the photographer for Chicago's Field Museum between 1899 and 1947. During his time there, he participated in several excursions. His last trip sent him to the St. Louis World's Fair (1904) where he produced 3000 negatives of American Indians. The condition of this framed Silver Gelatin photograph shows a well preserved stature with some slight wear to the corners of the frame but otherwise shows no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this framed photograph are 11 7/8" x 14" and the visible photograph measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/8".*
