This is a fabulous and large circa 1910 Early Navajo Ganado Large Floor Rug with Pictorial and Valero Stars from the Hubbell Trading Post with original tag / paperwork and early photo (from Hubbell Trading Post priced at $13,500); the rug is in a impressive large floor size. This is a truly phenomenal, large room size rug showing immense fine detail exhibits natural native handspun / hand spun wool with hand-carded natural grey field showing six Valero Star six-pointed stars with natural brown, hand-carded natural tan and nicely variegated aniline red framed by a fine highly detailed serrated sawtooth border with eagle feather and corn stalk pictorial central border further decorated with a border of hour glass alternating serrated design with a pictorial tipi like design in natural brown, natural cream white and more nicely variegated aniline red. Furthermore there is a wide natural white cream border with more highly detailed alternating hourglass serrated border with pictorial tipi design in natural dark brown and hand-carded grey with two bold borders in native hand dyed aniline red and natural brown. The red has quite a bit of nice variegation (variance in color) being native hand dyed aniline red. The rug is from an ex-Montana collection from a substantial luxury mountain Lodge whose collection was acquired from Hubbell Trading Post, Cowboy Connection, Garland's and others. Hubbell Trading Post was established in 1878 by John Lorenzo Hubbell and is the oldest continuously operating trading post in the Navajo Nation. Only ten years after the Navajo people returned from their forced exile at Bosque Redondo, New Mexico, known as the Long Walk of the Navajo, John Hubbell founded the trading post in 1878. The post originally began as a trading site established by William Leonard in the Ganado Valley around 1874, which Hubbell acquired using squatter’s rights and later formalized through a homestead claim. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960. The rug is truly a stunning museum quality piece showing extremely fine detail for its age with amazing natural handspun wool with rare pictorial and Valero star designs. The rug is soft with a nice tight weave showing various lazy lines throughout. The piece shows clean edges with no major damages, good even color with no A/B side, one corner has soiling, which looks to early clean out. Truly one of the best, large rugs we have offered.
