Featured in this lot is this original Yellowstone Trail Association Road Condition Service Map presented and made by The Yellowstone Trail Association in Minneapolis, Minnesota circa. 1930-40s. The renowned automotive route known as the Yellowstone Trail was created in 1912 and is named after the famous Yellowstone National Park. It was one of the country's earliest transcontinental roadways, stretching over 3,700 miles from Plymouth, Massachusetts to Seattle, Washington. The Yellowstone Trail was a network of existing roads and highways that were connected to form a coast-to-coast route rather than a single, uninterrupted road. There were prominent yellow and black markings indicating the route. The Yellowstone Trail was instrumental in popularizing the concept of long-distance road excursions, which contributed to the growth of vehicle travel in the United States. It also played a significant role in the development of small towns and businesses along the route, as it brought tourism and commerce to many areas that had previously been isolated. Although the new highway system now includes much of the original Yellowstone Trail, there are still numerous sections that can be driven and enjoyed by anyone who wants to learn about American history. The map is set in a thin wood frame. the top of the map reads, "Yellowstone Trail Association Road Condition Map Service / H.O. Cooley, General Manager / Corrected Each Week / By The Yellowstone Trail Association, 816 Second Ave. So., Minneapolis". The top of the map shows the upper portion of the United States, showing the entire Yellowstone Trail Road from Plymouth to Seattle in a thick black line. Within the thick black line, it has many white circles showing places to stop. The white circles correlate with the large list on the bottom of the map showing specific business along the way such as: hotels, garages, laundry places, banks and more. The map shows fair condition with tears, fading, holes and staining present throughout. The frame shows fair condition as well as it loosely holds the map in place. The piece measures 25 1/4" L x 37 1/2" W.
