Presented in this lot is this Beautiful Art Deco Black Forest Hand Carved Wood Glass Eyed Owl Double Inkwell with Pen Rest, circa 1930s. German Black Forest inkwell holds two sets of wood blocks inkwell, The inkwells contain the original white porcelain liners, carved pen rest, with carved owl at center and red/black glass eyes. "Black Forest" is a term used to describe the elaborate, realistic wood carvings that were thought to be made in the Black Forest region of Bavaria, Germany. Defined by images of forest animals, forest trees, leaves, and branches, these carvings date back to the 1800s. These carvings were actually first made in the town of Brienz in Switzerland. By the end of the century, the carvings had become the industry’s driving force. This Black Forest Owl Inkwell is in good overall condition, perfect for the journal writer or calligraphy artist. No obvious damage noted, measures 5.5"W x 13"L x 7"H
