Ted Flowers (1914-1976) was a renowned craftsman famous for creating "blingy" parade saddles used by Hollywood legends and equestrians in prestigious events like the Rose Parades in Pasadena, California and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades in New York City. Flowers was a prolific creator, sometimes described as a "Henry Ford" of ornate parade saddles, often producing sets for entire mounted sheriff's possess. Ted was one of the premier parade saddle makers of the 1930-1950’s with some of his customers being Roy Rogers and Gene Autry amongst other famous cowboys, and some of the saddles were part of the famous Sharkey's Nugget Casino Collection in Gardnerville, NV. Early examples from the 1930-1940’s were done on L.V. Frazier Farm and Home Supply Indianapolis, IN. In 1945 Ted started producing his own saddles, such as this amazing piece, in his Alexandria, Indian location, "The Spot Shop". The saddle is heavily adorned with original silver work with diamond shaped scales each having hand tooled / hand etched finishes. The saddle is covered nearly completely in silversmithing / silver work with a silver covered horn, gullet, breast collar, cantle, pommel rise, rear jockey, serape, tapaderos and more; mostly all being hand engraved. Large silver Indian Chief conchos are prominently displayed. The fenders and seat have intricate tooled floral designs. Saddles in this high grade of finish regularly sell for over $10,000 (one example being given a value of $35,000) with this being a truly wonderful example.
