Included in this lot is a Early Sterling Silver Cigarette Box, Deakin & Francis,1945, Birmingham, UK. Founded in 1786, Deakin & Francis, England's oldest manufacturing jewellers, has a long history of fine craftsmanship. Today it is known for the manufacture of a large range of gentlemen's cufflinks. A vintage silver cigarette box in the Art Deco style lined with a cedar interior. The hallmark is for Birmingham 1945. Rectangular with plain straight sides. Over cover hinged with tapering tab. The lid has a rectangular cartouche in the center which has been left blank and not engraved, surrounded by engine-turned ornament. Hallmarks are stamped on the left side. The interior has guides for a divider which is not present. Originally this would have been for cigarettes or small cigars but could of course be used now for many purposes such as a desk box or for jewelry. Box underside leather lined. Scratches and small dents noted. Measures 3.625"W x 5"L x 2"H, combined weight is 431.6 gms.
