Featured in this lot is this framed chromolithograph of a caravan traversing the open high plains by Montana artist C. M Russell. The piece is signed and dated in the lower left, “CM Russell (Buffalo Skull) 1918 in the plate. The scene features a caravan of men riding horses with pack horses in tow and shows the rich western decorum that Russell was so well known for. This original chromolithograph was completed during the lifetime during the lifetime of Charles Marion Russell. C.M. Russell is Montana’s finest artist and the most renowned and well-known cowboy artist of the 19th and 20th Century. These chromolithographs are the closest original piece to a true painting and are increasingly rare with only one The Custer Fight being offered on the public market which sold for $6,000 at Santa Fe Art Auction (shown w/ premiums). The piece has been professionally framed showing a wonderful solid wood antique frame that shows beautifully tooled decoration with a slightly floral feel. The condition of this framed chromolithograph is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this framed chromolithograph are 32" x 44" and the visible art measures 23 1/2" x 35 1/2".
