Included in this lot is a Charles M. Russell "Salute of the Robe Trade" Lithograph on Board, circa 1950s, framed. The artwork depicts a Native American tribe on horseback with various weapons riding down hill accompanied by their dogs. The background of the piece features a mountain range in the far distance with a canyon and river in the forefront. Adjacent to the river is a fort. The artwork depicts a historic meeting and exchange between Native Americans and European-American fur traders, a theme Russell revisited often to document the changing culture of the frontier. Charles Marion Russell (1864-1926), also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an artist of the Old American West. Russell created more than 2,000 paintings of Western life with depictions of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. Known as 'the cowboy artist', Russell was also a storyteller and author. The piece is signed in the bottom left corner "C.M. Russell" with a copyright symbol. The print is expertly placed in a large rustic wooden frame. This artwork is in very nice condition, showing some small rips on the backing paper of the frame. Visible art measures 19.5"W x 35"L, frame is 28.5"W x 44.5"L x .75"D, weight is 8lb.
