Featured in this lot is a limited edition bronze sculpture of Sitting Bull done by renowned sculptor Chris Navarro in 2000. This limited edition piece is numbered "8/50". Chris Navarro is an award-winning sculptor known for his dynamic bronze works depicting the spirit of the American West and its inhabitants. A former rodeo performer (bull and bronc rider), he created his first sculpture in 1980 after discovering a bronze of Steamboat and learning the skill from library books. In 1986, he made his professional debut with the composition "Spinnin' and Winnin'," which earned a local blue ribbon. Navarro, who is based in Casper, Wyoming and Sedona, Arizona, where he runs the Navarro Gallery in Tlaquepaque, has made over 34 large bronze sculptures for public locations across the country. This bronze shows a bust style of Sitting Bull, an iconic Hunkpapa Lakota leader who led his people during years of resistance against United States government policies. He has his chin slightly up and has a stoic look on his face as he looks slightly to the left of the viewer. He has two feathers in his hair and his hair is in two long braids. The sculpture sits on a wood stand with a metal plaque on the front reading, "Sitting Bull by Chris Navarro". The back of the sculpture is marked reading, "Chris Navarro 8/50 ©2000". It shows good condition overall with no wear or damage present. It measures 5 1/4" L x 5 1/2" W x 16" H and weighs 4 pounds and 14 ounces.*
