The lot features a carved wooden polychrome painted bow that dates to circa 1800-1850 from the Cahuilla Indians part of the Southern California Mission Indians. The piece is accompanied with a document from Aboriginal Mart from Claire Demaray of St. Johns, Arizona which notes this piece as, "Cahuilla bow. Found in an outcropping of boulders at the Salton Sea, California. 42"L x 1 1/2"W. There is a design of alternating red and white elements. There is no restoration. The wood was oiled to keep it from splitting." The paperwork later states the piece was not stolen, falsified, forged or restored and so on, basically claiming its authenticity and that it was legally obtained. Sold in 2009. The bow shows a classic pattern with carved notches which would have held the long gone sinew strand. Both the inside and outside edge of the bow have a design showing bands with spotted centers in red, white and possible black. The bow has a nice dark coloring and good patina. It is well kept.
