The lot features a silver mounted presentation grade pipe tomahawk from the early 1800. The circa 1800 tomahawk is attributed to the Iroquois Indian area of New York state and is an early English-made piece featuring a forged iron head in typical late 1700’s early 1800’s pattern. The head has a high polish. The eyehole was made with the “pierced hole” method described by Harold Peterson in his 1965 book, “American Indian Tomahawks” on page 71. Very similar to the example 127 on page 106 in Harold Peterson’s 1965 “American Indian Tomahawks which shows an English circa 1800, marker mark B. WOOD. The haft shows tiger maple hard wood with beautiful striped wood grain along with large pewter smoking tip, pewter end cap, the clean out plug long gone, and two large wide pewter bands. The head is affixed to the haft with poured silver pewter gasket. The entire tomahawk has a nice mellow patina with minor wear and oxidation from age and use. Provenance: From the Allen Glaser collection Dallas, Texas. The head measures 6 ¾ inches in length and the club itself is 17 ¾ inches long overall.
