This is an original circa 1854 Ambrotype portrait photograph, taken by Rufus Adams, Portland Maine. The Ambrotype is housed in the original case, showing a brown color and floral and scroll designs on the front and back. The inside is ornately decorated with purple felt on one side and the Ambrotype on the other side surrounded by a gold colored frame. In the frame it is stamped reading, "Ambrotype by R. Adams / Cutting's Pat. July 4 & 11 1854". The photo shows a nicely dressed middle aged man, looking towards the left of the viewer. The case can be securely closed as it features two hooks and holes. The case and photo show good condition overall with some wear present from their antique age and use over the years, but no obvious signs of damage are present. The Ambrotype measures 4 5/8" L x 3 5/8" W x 3/4" D and weighs 181.1 grams.
