This is a truly stunning and important circa 1860-1870 Navajo Late Classic Men’s Serape. The piece shows phenomenal detail, and appears more like an early Navajo Classic Serape of pre-1865, but is believed to be a Late Classic of the 1860-1870 early range. The textile shows a finely woven red field with stacked banded intricated geomemtric designs, absent of a border, having serrated zig-zag diamond patterns, spider woman crosses, box designs, bands and other patterns in colors of dark brown, off white / cream, yellow and a faded indigo blue. This is truly a fine rug with a nice large size that presents beautifully. The condition is well preserved with some wear to the weaving but otherwise good. The measurements of this rug is 83 1/2" x 60". Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
