The lot features a rare mid-1800’s American Indian dag knife with stamping from Ivan Sorby Supplier with bone inlays from the ex-Museum East Coast collection and ex-John Baldwin collection. The piece exhibits a beaver paddle wooden pattern showing a hand-forged iron blade showing a dark walnut hardwood handle which is decorated with inlaid walrus t.usk bone showing an engraved circular pattern. The blade shows a crude, early “ISS” stamping on the blade which have been documented y Flayderman and Baldwin as being one of two early Sorby stampings, them being “IS” and “ISS” for Ivan Sorby and Ivan Sorby Supplier. The bone inlays with circular design are inlaid on both sides. The blade shows a dark coloring and the handle a deep walnut dark patina with some yellowing on the bone, no major damage. Provenance: From an ex-Museum East Coast collection where the piece was proudly on display; ex-John Baldwin collection noted author and collector.
