This is a fabulous Navajo Late Classic Serape dating to circa 1865-1870 from the Victor J. Evans (1865-1931) collection and formerly sold by Skinner Boston. The rug was collected by Victor J. Evans (1865-1931) Washington, D.C. and descended through their family. This is an absolutely fabulous Navajo Men’s Late Classic Serape shows a red background with interlocking triangle and diamond devices, with a central multicolored diamond with narrow bands overlaid on a red ground. The finely woven rug is comprised of red, indigo blue and white yarns. The condition of this Navajo rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows a good overall condition; the rug shows signs of minor restoration. The measurements of this rug are 78" x 53". The thread count is 216 threads per square inch. Provenance: Originally from Victor J Evans (1865-1931) collection, Washington D.C., thence by descent through the family; sold by Skinner Boston and found to be an authentic Late Classic Serape from the Victor J. Evans collection and valued at $12,000-$18,000; and from a prominent Bozeman, Montana collection.
