This is a fabulous circa 1870 Dakota Sioux pipe tomahawk from an ex-Museum collection East Coast. The club exhibits a blacksmith forged iron head with an ash wood haft handle covered in old file brandings and elaborate old brass tack decoration and a drop dangle drop of old black horse tail hair, old tarnished brass hawk bells. The entire tomahawk has a rich deep chocolate, almost black patina, a truly beautiful piece. The tomahawk head has a classic Western 1860-1870’s pattern showing a flaring tapered blade with small flat turned in spur with tear drop eye showing large chevron moldings with tall bowl. The eyelet hole / eye shows a deep patina cap securing the head, wonderful honest patina. Provenance: From a private East Coast Museum Collection where the piece was proudly on display. The pipe head shows fine details, with small engraved / incised lines framing the chevron moldings and a row of engraved spots at the top of the blade neck. Measures overall 22-inches long and the head measures 8-inches long and 2.25-inches across the bottom of the blade.
